Leave Dorm Room Decor Behind: Decoration Ideas For Your First Apartment

One of the most fun things you can do at your new home is decorated it. It can be a creative outlet, and it doesn't have to be super expensive. This is great for people who are on a budget, which is often the case with people who are first-time renters. If you don't have a lot of money to spend on pricey paintings or expensive design features, then it is important that you focus on inexpensive solutions that can also be decorative and interesting to look at. Here are a few ideas to consider.

High-End Wall Poster

Just because you are in your own apartment and not some dorm room it doesn't mean that you have to leave the posters behind. There are large wall posters that you might want to look into. These can depict a sunset or an ocean scene and they are a really excellent way to transform the look of the entire apartment. What you are dealing with is not a small poster of your favorite rock band or some other poster which is a reproduction of a famous work of art, these are more along the lines of large scenic displays. So, for instance, if you don't have a great view from your window what you could do is get a gigantic poster that depicts a vista view of the mountains, the seashore, a beach, or something else. To make it even more interesting you could install track lighting above it and then use this to highlight the beautiful faux view.

Reclaimed Wood Art

If you're really looking to make a statement in your room, and you want something that is unique, then you should choose a piece of artwork that will really stand out. One of the coolest things you can get is a piece of reclaimed wood art that has been hand painted. These are great because they have a ton of history behind them, so you will own something original and it won't cost you a tremendous amount of money. Should you have gone the route of buying an old work of art (such as an original oil painting) you would end up spending a ton of money. Which is not what many people have funds to do. However, reclaimed wood art is often much more accessible. Often times you are dealing with independent artists or even "outsider artists" whose work is not yet priced exorbitantly. These pieces might be made from old boards from farmhouses or boats. The wood will be assembled into a design and painted, and you will have a beautiful bit of history in your home as decoration.
